Besides the M-series chipsets now in use in Macs and iPads, Apple is also expected to begin manufacturing 5G modems for iPhones in the near future. Reports indicate that Qualcomm will continue to provide its modem for next iPhones at least until 2025, despite Apple’s plans to develop its own 5G modem for future iPhones.

Analyst Jeff Pu of Haitong International Securities said in a letter to investors that the 2024 iPhones would feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon X75 modem. In the meanwhile, the newest Snapdragon X70 modem from Qualcomm is likely to be standard on all four iPhone 15 models next year.

According to MacRumors, TSMC will produce the 5G modem utilising a 4nm technology that will bring power efficiency. The X70 modem in the iPhone 15 might allow for download rates of up to 10Gbps, enhanced coverage, higher-quality signals, and up to 60% less battery consumption.

Nonetheless, the source stated that the timeline for an iPhone with an Apple-designed modem had been pushed out to 2025. Renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also speculated that Qualcomm modems would remain in the iPhone 15.

Kuo claims that the tech giant may opt to further distinguish the future iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models in response to the great demand for the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max. Kuo also speculated that the “Ultra” would only include a periscope lens (6x or 5x). The Ultra also has an extended battery life.
