Electronic Arts (EA) announces new Windows app to replace Origin

ea announces new window app origin

Electronic Arts (EA), a well-known video game developer, has revealed a new Windows software that will soon take the place of Origin, an exclusive PC launcher that first appeared in 2011. It was developed with the intention of competing with existing digital shops for personal computers, such as Steam. In the year 2020, Origin made the announcement that their gaming catalogue will be able to be transferred to Steam, and the platform granted the publisher permission to sell its games there. Despite this, customers will still need to have Origin installed in order to play any Electronic Arts games that they have purchased via the digital distribution service.

According to EA, the company has begun distributing the software to its customers. According to a blog post, Electronic Arts claims that this new application is the “fastest and lightest PC client to date.” The publisher has previously merged its EA Access and Origin Access offerings into a single one known simply as EA Play.

According to EA, the new app is not yet accessible on any platform other than supported Windows PCs. While Mac users have a little longer to wait for this new PC client, Origin will continue to function normally for them in the meantime. Users of Windows who already have an Origin account will be sent an invitation automatically to transfer their account to the new EA app if they are eligible to do so. It is essential to emphasise the fact that current Origin customers will have a simple way to migrate their games, cloud and local saves, buddy lists, and other stuff onto the new software.

EA asserts that the newly released app has a design that is more intuitive to use and that it comes loaded with features such as automated game downloads and background upgrades. Connecting a user’s EA account to another platform, such as Steam, Xbox, or PlayStation, enables them to grow their buddy lists and add more people to play with. The new EA app will be available later this year. Users will also get a one-of-a-kind ID that will make it easier for their friends to locate them.

A decade has passed since the first release of Origin before the app was made available. The last significant event involving the application took place in the year 2020, when Electronic Arts made the decision to switch the platform over to a new Windows client. However, despite having more than 50 million registered users, EA’s Origin has been criticised for having security issues that might allow for surveillance on its users.
