India wants Apple & Samsung to Speed Up Updates to Support 5G Services

india wants faster updates

The Indian government is probably going to put pressure on major smartphone manufacturers like Apple and Samsung to hasten the release of software upgrades that add compatibility for 5G frequencies to their devices. According to a report by Reuters, tomorrow top officials from the telecoms and IT departments will chair a meeting for early 5G adoption, and they have invited representatives from Apple mobile, Samsung, and Xiaomi, as well as domestic telecom operators Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Vodafone Idea, to attend.

One of the biggest telecoms, Bharti Airtel, announced the debut of 5G in eight Indian cities on the same day as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 5G services in India with great excitement on October 1 at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2022. However, Airtel claims that the newest flagship models of Apple’s iPhone 14 series and Samsung’s Galaxy S22 range do not support 5G networks.

A notification for the closed-door meeting, obtained by Reuters, revealed that discussions “to prioritise” and deliver software updates supporting the high-speed network were on the agenda.

At the sixth India Mobile Congress 2022, Bharti Airtel announced that it will begin rolling out its 5G services throughout the nation in a limited number of locations. Telecom giant confirms 5G launch in eight locations beginning October 1. Airtel’s chairman, Sunil Bharti Mittal, said at the IMC 2022 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, that the firm will begin rolling out 5G telecom services in eight cities, including four major areas, today. By March 2024, the roll out of services was expected to span the whole country.

Customers of Airtel who have access to 5G signals in their region may make the switch, but if they discover that 5G uses too much data, they can revert to the 4G network at any time. An Airtel representative was reported by PTI as adding, “Access to 5G is voluntary.”

As of right now, Airtel 5G Plus service is compatible with 5G models from Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, Realme, and OnePlus.

In the meanwhile, during the beta phase, Reliance Jio is offering its chosen customers who have a 5G smartphone access to limitless 5G bandwidth.
